Joe grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was a multiple sports athlete playing baseball, track and field, and football in high school and college. His high school job was being a ballboy for the Boston Celtics. He first performed on stage in London at the Newham International Festival of Theatre In England. After performing in London he returned knowing he wanted to continue in the theater, and went on to study theater at Pomona College. He also went back to London to study theater at Regent’s college and sing at The Royal Academy before getting his B.A. in Theater and Film from Pitzer College.
He then moved to Los Angeles where he was a nightmare for a few years before his acting career took off.
Outside of Hollywood, Joe played poker professionally from 2006 to 2011, competing in the World Series of Poker 5 times, as well as winning the Stone Cold Nuts Tournament online and beating out 2774 players to win $266,000. He also wrote a comic that was published by Marvel, Spiderman Unlimited #14, and was thrilled to be able to cross that off his bucket list.

Joe is also one of the co-founders of Animal Avengers with Shannon Elizabeth, which they started in 2001, and still serves on the board of directors. He feels that it is important to try and create content that informs people on the issues and dangers animals all around the world are facing daily.
